If you’re looking for a native Screen Recording tool in Windows 11, then there’s good news for you. Microsoft has updated the Snipping Tool app with the ability to Record screens as well.
Initially, Microsoft released the update for Snipping Tool (v11.2211.35.0) with Record options to users who have enrolled in the Insider program and running Windows 11 build 25252 or above.
Microsoft is rolling out this update gradually and due to this reason, not all Windows 11 Testers get the latest Snipping Tool app update.

In case, you can’t wait for the update to reach your PC and would like to access the Snipping Tool Screen Recording feature, then you can manually update the app using .msixbundle.
If you made up to this line, then we assume that you’re Windows Insider and very well aware of .misxbundle, right? So let’s move forward:
- Download the Snipping Tool app v11.2211.35.0 .msixbundle using this link.
- Double-click to Run the file.
- In the Installer, you need to click on the Update button. And let the installer complete the update process.
Once done, the Snipping Tool app will open automatically. This time, you will see the Record tab.
Recording Screen using Snipping Tool in Windows 11 (Screen Recorder)
Now that, you’ve successfully updated the Snipping Tool and Record option is available. Here’s how you can record the screen:
- Switch to the Record option and then click on the New option.
- Select the region of the screen, (particular area or full screen) by pressing + holding + dragging the cursor and release it once done.
- Click on the Blue Start button to Start the recording.
- Once done, click on the Red Stop button to Stop the recording.
- The preview of the screen recording will open in Snipping Tool UI, where you can play it, download it to your computer, and share it with your friends.
As simple as that!
Windows 11 Native Screen Recorder tool is in the early stage of development so don’t expect a smooth experience. There is no option to manage tool settings.
