Unable to boot into your PC? This issue can be annoying when you have some urgent work to do and your Windows 10 won’t boot. If you are facing this problem, then you are not alone.
Many people have complained that their Windows 10 failed to load or boot even if it was working fine before.
It is a common problem, that Windows 10 users are likely to encounter. Many times the reason behind this issue lies in the problematic BIOS settings, and sometimes it can be because of faulty hardware.
How to Reset Windows 10 When it won’t Boot
If you are facing this issue then you need not worry about it. Here we will be guiding you with how you can fix Windows 10 that won’t boot.
Check The Battery And All The Cables
If your computer isn’t starting, then there can be an issue with the battery or the cables. This is the first thing that you should do if your computer won’t even start. If you are using the laptop, check the power supply to the laptop and also the battery. If the battery is faulty then you may face a problem with starting it.
If you are using a desktop computer, check the power supply and the cables. Ensure all the cables are properly connected and then try booting into your computer. If there is some issue with the hardware then you should try taking your laptop or your desktop PC to a technician and get it repaired.
However, if your PC turns on but it doesn’t boot, then you should move to the next step.
Try Booting Into Safe Mode
If your PC starts but Windows 10 won’t boot, then you can try booting into safe mode. Safe mode is the alternate version of Windows which is meant to be accessed when something went wrong with the Windows and you are unable to fix it in the normal mode.
To access safe mode on your Windows 10 PC, you will have to interrupt the normal boot process 3-4 times continuously. You will have to prevent your PC from starting to boot into safe mode. All you have to do is turn on your PC, and as soon as you see the brand’s logo, turn off the PC. You will have to do it 2-3 times, and you will see the option to boot into safe mode.
If you can boot into your PC, then you may try scanning your PC for malware. Use third-party antimalware and antivirus software to scan your PC for malware and viruses and fix all the issues. You may also try running an SFC scan to ensure you fix all the corrupted files.
Run SFC Scan
SFC scan or System File Checker scans your PC for corrupted files which may be causing Windows 10 to not boot, and fix the files. To run the SFC scan follow the steps given below-
Press the Windows key on your keyboard and then search for Command Prompt. You are advised to run the Command Prompt as administrator because you will be making changes to the system files and it requires administrative privileges.

In the Command Prompt, type and hit Enter to run the SFC scan. Wait for the process to complete, and it will fix any issues caused due to corrupted files.
Turn Off Fast Boot
You may also face the issue because of the fast boot being turned on. Fast Boot is a setting in BIOS which many times can cause compatibility issues. You can try turning off Fast Boot and then check if you still face the issue or not. To turn off fast boot, follow the steps given below-
Firstly, turn off your PC. Now press the power button to turn it on again. As soon as the logo appears, you will have to enter the BIOS/UEFI. To do so, you will have to press either F1, F2, F10, F12, Del, or Esc keys. The key to access the BIOS menu can vary, you can search for that on the internet.
You will be headed to the BIOS menu. Here head to the Advanced Options and then look out for Fast Boot. Turn off fast boot, and you are good to go.
Save the changes after you turn off the fast boot and reboot your PC normally. See if Windows 10 boots or not. If it still doesn’t boot, then simply move to the next step.
Reset The BIOS Settings
If turning off the fast boot didn’t work for you, then you can simply try resetting the BIOS settings. To reset the BIOS setting, follow the steps given below-
Access the BIOS settings as you did before. In the BIOS settings, press the F9 key to reset the settings to default. Now press F10 to save the changes and exit the BIOS settings.

Check if it fixes the issue or not. If Windows 10 is still not able to boot, then you should move ahead to the next troubleshooting method.
Use Startup Repair
If you have the Windows 10 installation media with you then you can also try performing a startup repair. This method uses Windows 10 installation media to repair any corrupt files and fix the issue with Windows 10.
Plugin the Windows 10 installation media into your PC. Now reboot your PC, and boot into it using the installation media.
On the Windows 10 installation page, you will see an option called Repair your computer. Select this option, and you will be headed to a whole new different screen.
After doing so click on Troubleshoot and then select Advanced options.

In the Advanced options, click on Startup Repair. Now wait for the process to complete, and this will fix the issue for you.

Reset The PC/Clean Install Windows
The last resort will be to reset this PC. If trying all the above steps didn’t solve the issue for you, then you should try resetting your PC. Do note that this will remove all the data from your PC, so only proceed ahead if you have taken a backup.
To continue with this process, you will also need the Windows 10 installation media. To reset the PC, follow the steps given below-
Plugin the Windows 10 installation media in your PC and boot into your PC using it as you did before. On the installation page, click on Repair this PC. Here, select Troubleshoot option.

Now click on Reset this PC.

You will get two options- Keep my files and Remove everything. Select Keep my files and follow the on-screen instructions to reset this PC. This will save all the files and remove all the apps and system settings.

You can either clean install Windows 10 if resetting the PC doesn’t work for you.
